Siesta Key is an eight-mile-long barrier island connected to Sarasota by two bridges. The wide expanse of sand is like fine confectioners sugar, powdery white and soothing to touch. With silken sand, dolphins dancing in the surf and picture-perfect sunsets, it's little wonder this beach generally ranks among the top rated beaches. With so much to see and do, Siesta Key is popular with families, snowbirds and those who love the nightlife.
Outdoor Focus
- On the water: Warm gulf waters make parasailing, fishing, dolphin tours and sunset cruises a delight. Sailors can charter or rent their dream boat, or take a private tour.
- On land: If you prefer to stay on dry land, rollerblade or bike through the quaint village. Golfers can play a round or two on one of the many local courses.

The Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce can keep you up-to-date on weekly events. Year-round highlights include:
- G.Wiz Gulfcoast Wonder and Imagine Zone: This hands-on science museum has 85 exhibits that will help you "explore the cool side of science."
- Ringling Museum of Art: This 66-acre estate holds 21 art galleries ranging from Cypriot antiques to contemporary art. Visit the Circus Museum and century old rose garden on beautiful grounds overlooking Sarasota Bay.
- Sarasota Jungle Gardens: This former banana swamp is now a jungle paradise with open lagoons, pink flamingos and exotic plants and birds from around the world.
Area Events
- Frosty Festival for Kids (December): This family-friendly event includes clowns, games, music and food. While admission is free, attendees are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy as a donation to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
- Annual Sand Sculpting Contest (May): This free event at Siesta Beach brings the best sand sculptors in the world. whose creations go way beyond sand castles.
Nightlife
When the sun goes down, Siesta Village is the place to be. Brimming with bars, nightclubs, restaurants and shops, there's something for everyone - grab a casual family meal, linger over a romantic candle-lit dinner or dance the night away.
Accommodation
Siesta Key offers a wide variety of accommodations - from gulf-view resort condominiums to private cottages. If you don't need a room, only a place to float your boat, many Siesta Key area condominiums have boat docks.
